/ world today news/ The contract for experimental design activities under the Russian-Indian FGFA fighter project has already been agreed and will be signed in the coming months. This was reported by the Indian newspaper “Tribune” (The Tribune) on Thursday (May 12), citing a source from the country’s Ministry of Defense, lenta.ru reported.
The agreement concerns the second stage of work on the FGFA fighter. The first contract for the development of the technical appearance of the machine was signed in 2010 and ended in June 2013. Its value was $295 million. After it, for more than two years, there was an agreement on the conditions for further work on the aircraft.
According to the contract, in the second stage, experimental design activities will start in full scale, which will allow to develop a fighter that meets the demands of the Indian side. The size of the deal, the implementation of which is expected to last seven years (including three before the first flight of the machine), is estimated at $4 billion.
The FGFA is based on the fifth-generation Russian fighter T-50, created by OKB “Sukhoi” within the framework of the PAK FA project. According to previous estimates, the share of India in the structure of work on the creation of the FGFA will reach 40% (initially it was expected to be only 13%). Delhi raised more than 40 demands, including using the latest Russian engines, ensuring cruising supersonic speed, having an on-board radar complex with a circular overview, etc.
In total, the Indian Air Force is interested in purchasing about 200 such fighters.
