Air traffic between Russia and Egypt was interrupted in the fall of 2015

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Egyptian leader Abdel Fattah al-Sisi have agreed on the full resumption of flights between the two countries. About it informs press service of the Kremlin on Friday, 23 April.

“Taking into account the completed joint work to ensure high standards of aviation security at Egyptian airports, an agreement in principle has been reached on the restoration of full-scale air communication between the Russian Federation and the Arab Republic of Egypt, which meets the friendly nature of relations between the two countries and peoples,” the message says.

It is indicated that the competent services will work out the practical parameters for the resumption of flights from Russia to the cities of Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh.

In turn Interfax citing a source in aviation circles, reports that Russian airlines will resume flights to Egyptian resorts in May, most likely in the second decade. According to him, it will take up to two weeks to settle the formalities.

Also, the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) said that in the event of the resumption of charter flights with the resorts of Egypt, this country will be able to visit at least 260 thousand tourists from the Russian Federation per month.

As you know, air traffic between Russia and Egypt was interrupted after the explosion over Sinai of a Russian plane A321 with tourists on October 31, 2015. Then 224 people died. Later, the FSB recognized this explosion as a terrorist attack.

In January 2018 Moscow allowed to resume flights with Cairo after the local airport was checked by Russian security experts. Information about the imminent resumption of flights to the resorts of Egypt appeared more than once, but it turned out to be unreliable.
