More than 100 monarchs, heads of state and other VIP guests are expected at the funeral, but Russia and Belarus will not be represented, a British government source told AFP news agency.
Neither North Korea nor the military government of Myanmar – which was a British colony until four years before Elizabeth inherited the throne – were invited, according to the anonymous source.
US President Joe Biden has confirmed that he will come and have been given permission to drive his armored car, known as The Beast. According to a leaked planning document, the plan calls for guests to be escorted by bus to the funeral at Westminster Abbey.
It was later said that the leaders of Britain’s closest allies would be allowed to use their own means of transport. These include French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister and Japanese Emperor Naruhito. The funeral will be his first trip abroad since he inherited the Chrysanthemum Throne in 2019.
Among the most controversial names among the guests are the President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman. Former Spanish king Juan Carlos, who abdicated in disgrace in 2014 and lives in exile, said he will come with his son, King Felipe.
