Russia is going to expel at least ten American and three Polish diplomats from the country. The country is also looking at more countermeasures to the sanctions announced by the United States. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov came with that message on Friday.
In addition, at least eight US government officials will be placed on a sanction list and “painful measures” against US companies in Russia are being looked into, Lavrov said. Furthermore, Moscow is looking at ending Russian activities by US funds and nongovernmental organizations that would meddle in Russia’s internal affairs.
On Thursday, the US announced it would expel ten employees of the Russian embassy in Washington and declare sanctions against more than 30 Russians or Russian institutions.
American banks will also no longer be allowed to trade in Russian government debt. These measures were taken in part due to Russian attempts to influence the 2020 US presidential elections.
After the United States, Poland announced on Thursday that it would expel three Russian diplomats.
