MADRID, 28 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The entourage of the Russian opponent Alexei Navalny, who died on February 16 while in prison serving a sentence of nearly 30 years for fraud and extremism, reported this Wednesday that the dissident will be buried this Friday in the Borisov cemetery. , in Moscow.
His spokesperson, Kira Yarmish, has indicated in a message broadcast through his account on the social network located in the Mariino district. “Come quickly,” she asserted.
His relatives had reported this Tuesday that there were problems finding a place in Moscow to organize an event in tribute to the late opposition leader after having contacted “most” of the funeral homes and venues in the Russian capital in vain.
The country’s authorities have expressed their rejection of the funeral being held this Thursday, the day on which Russian President Vladimir Putin addresses Parliament, sources close to the Kremlin have revealed to the Vestka news portal. The Government considers that the funeral could quickly lead to protests against the president and has suggested March 1 as a more desirable date.
Navalni died almost two weeks ago in the Arctic prison where he was serving his sentence. The Russian authorities have attributed his death to natural causes, but the opposition’s entourage blames the Government and, in particular, Putin.
Navalny’s family was finally able to recover his body on Saturday, although his mother stated that they had threatened to leave the remains in the prison itself if he did not comply with the authorities’ requirements.
