Russia is sticking to its schedule of holding presidential elections in early 2024, despite the “special operation” in Ukraine, a Kremlin spokesman says.
– The election will take place as planned, says Dmitry Peskov, according to the Interfax news agency. Peskov points out that President Vladimir Putin made this clear in his address to the nation in February.
Nevertheless, there has been much speculation as to whether the war will lead to the postponement or outright cancellation of the election. Election manager Ella Pamfilova accuses the West of sabotaging the implementation.
– Enormous sums have been spent on this, especially by the United States, Pamfilova said during an event at a university in the eastern city of Khabarovsk on Monday.
