On Thursday, Russian representatives appeared at the International Court of Justice (IC) with accusations against Ukraine in the destruction of the Kakhovka dam with massive artillery fire, reports the Russian service of the BBC.
Earlier, the same accusations were made by Russia at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.
“The Kyiv regime not only carried out massive artillery strikes on the dam on the night of June 6, but also deliberately raised the water level in the Kakhovka dam to a critical level,” Russian diplomat Alexander Shulgin told the ICC.
Ukraine also accuses Moscow of destroying the hydroelectric plant.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that such a powerful structure cannot be destroyed by artillery from the outside, for destruction on such a scale, the explosion must be carried out from the inside.
The International Court of Justice is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, approved by the Charter of the United Nations.
We recall that in his first comments after the destruction of the strategic dam controlled by Russia in southern Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin blamed Ukraine for the extensive damage and called the actions of those responsible “barbaric,” Politico quoted him as saying.
The damage to Ukraine’s Nova Kakhovka dam that caused massive flooding in the Kherson region could be a potential war crime, EU and Ukrainian leaders said on Tuesday.
