Moscow, Mar 1 (EFE) .- Russia on Monday accused the social network Twitter of violating its legislation on the elimination of prohibited content.
Since 2017 Twitter has not removed 2,862 posts with prohibited information, Roskomnadzor, Russia’s communications regulator, said in a press release.
Roskomnadzor indicated that the social network has ignored the more than 28,000 requests made in this regard by the Russian authorities.
According to the regulator, 2,336 of the total publications of prohibited content refer to forms of suicide and incitement to suicide; 325, to child pornography, and 174, to the manufacture and consumption of drugs.
Russian law penalizes the violation of the rule that requires the removal of prohibited content with fines of between 800,000 and 8 million rubles (10,750 and 108,000 dollars, respectively).
Roskomnadzor recalled that in cases of recidivism the fine can be raised up to a fifth of the annual turnover of the offending company.
