Russia accuses Apple and US intelligence of spying on diplomats through hacked iPhones

Russia has accused Apple and US intelligence of teaming up to spy on Russian diplomats by hacking their iPhones. Such statements were made by the Federal Security Service of Russia (FDD). The agency has announced that thousands of Apple devices belonging to Russian diplomats have been infected with unknown malware.

FDD reports that the malware also targets devices that are not located in Russia, as well as affects officials who use SIM cards registered in diplomatic missions and embassies in Russia. Users located in the countries of the NATO bloc, as well as in Israel, Syria and China, are also affected.

At the same time, the Russian cyber security company “Kaspersky” has also reported an attack on its “Apple” devices and indicates that it is most likely related to the first cyber incident. The company’s CEO, Yevgeniis Kaspersky, stated that the cyber attack was “extremely complex” and “professionally targeted” and added that several dozen iPhones of the company’s employees were affected.

Meanwhile, Apple categorically denies the Russian Federal Security Service’s accusations of spying on officials. The company also says it has never worked with any government to use any of its Apple products for espionage or other harm.
