[オレシキ 22日 ロイター] – The Russian Occupation Authority of the city of Kherson, in southern Ukraine, on the 22nd advised its citizens to evacuate immediately, citing the tense situation caused by the Ukrainian advance.

The city was occupied shortly after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February, but the fighting has reached a critical stage as Ukrainian counterattacks are pushing Russian forces back along the west bank of the Dnieper. Kherson is the capital of Kherson Oblast, one of the four provinces declared unilaterally annexed by Russia.

Thousands of civilians have already been evacuated across the Dnieper, but the authorities stressed the urgent need to evacuate. Reuters confirmed that the refugees arrived by boat with luggage and pets in Oreshki on the east coast. When the family arrived, they were waiting for a bus to Crimea in southern Ukraine, which Russia had unilaterally annexed.

The Russian-appointed leader in the Kherson region said this week that he plans to evacuate 10,000 civilians a day from the city of Kherson, preparing to receive them in Russia in anticipation of a Ukrainian counterattack.

This week Ukraine imposed an information check on Kherson.
