Russia is the first country to complete clinical trials of human Covid-19 vaccines, and the results have demonstrated the drug’s effectiveness, the media reported on Sunday.

Chief researcher Elena Smolyarchuk, director of the Center for Clinical Drug Research at the University of Sechenov, told the Russian news agency TASS on Sunday that human trials with the vaccine at the university have ended and will soon be released.

“The research has been completed and it has been proven that the vaccine is safe. The volunteers will be released on July 15th and 20th, ”Smolyarchuk was quoted in the report.

However, there was no further information about when this vaccine would enter commercial production. Russia had approved clinical trials with two forms of a potential Covid-19 vaccine developed on June 18 by the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology in Gamaleya.

The first vaccine in the form of a solution for intramuscular administration was carried out at the Burdenko Military Hospital. Another vaccine in the form of a powder for the preparation of a solution for intramuscular administration was carried out at the Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University.

The first phase of vaccine research at Sechenov University included a group of 18 volunteers and the second group included 20 volunteers.

After vaccination, all volunteers should remain isolated in a hospital for 28 days. Previously, the results of the COVID-19 vaccine tests performed on a group of volunteers in Russia showed that they developed immunity to the coronavirus.

“The data received from the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology in Gamalei show that volunteers in the first and second groups form an immune response after injections of the coronavirus vaccine,” said a previous statement by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
