After a disappointing last season, the Los Angeles Lakers still want to persuade athletically. One of the main reasons for this bad season was Russell Westbrook, who was given most of the blame. Westbrook did not deliver.
For this reason, the Lakers are said to have seriously considered selling Westbrook. The NBA pro was in conversation with the Indiana Pacers. The Lakers would trade their first-round picks in 2027 and 2029 with the Pacers for Myles Turner and Buddy Hield, The Athletic reports. Shortly before the start of the new season, the Lakers were still in contact with the Pacers.
Russell Westbrook should go – The Lakers are on Kyrie Irving
But Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka, owner Jeanie Buss, and senior basketball advisor Kurt Rambis ultimately decided to keep Westbrook. “The Athletic” also reports that the Lakers are checking the scenarios for how they might approach Nets star Kyrie Irving.
According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, the Lakers were willing to trade two first-round picks to get either Donovan Mitchell or Irving. When that offer wasn’t enough to get any of the stars, the Lakers decided not to give up on the picks because “they didn’t feel they could get a player who could make a difference to both of them,” McMenamin said.
So Westbrook stays with the Los Angeles Lakers. But his future with the Lakers remains uncertain.
