Russell Westbrook Climbs into NBA’s Top 25 All-Time Scoring List, Joining Elite Company

A few weeks ago, Russell Westbrook stood out by asking to be placed on the bench to facilitate the integration of new recruit James Harden. Often described by those who worked with him as a model teammate, the veteran leader therefore sacrificed his starting place. Although he scores less than in previous years – 11.4 points per game on average in 2023-24 – Westbrook managed to climb, this Monday evening, into the top 25 all-time in this area.

During the first quarter of Monday night’s game between the LA Clippers and the Miami Heat, star point guard Russell Westbrook made history by ranking 25th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. With that, Westbrook joined LeBron James et Oscar Robertson as only three players in NBA history to be in the top 25 in points and top 10 in assists.

An impeccable player

This is a major achievement for Westbrook, who has several different NBA records. With three titles as best passer over a season and two titles as best scorer, Westbrook is undoubtedly one of the best point guards of all time, and this latest achievement shows it. In addition to being able to put his ego aside for the collective good, he is still capable of scoring and playing at a high level. Westbrook offers the Clippers a completely unique dynamic coming off the bench.

Westbrook loving a certain duty

Additionally, ahead of Monday night’s game against Miami, Westbrook was 5th among all point guards/guards in rebounds grabbed per game this season, while being only 76th in minutes played. “I want people who come to the game to understand that it doesn’t really matter whether I play five or twenty minutes. When I’m on the field, I make sure I’m competitive and give everything I have. I know that my duty is to give my all every evening and to ensure that the people who come to the match appreciate the time I spend on the pitch,” he declared in mid-December.
