CelebritiesIs Russell Brand (48) rising from the ashes of his burned career? The British comedian and actor has never been more popular online than now, four months after the documentary ‘In Plain Sight’ revealed how Brand sexually assaulted multiple women. The alleged abuse is currently being investigated by police. But Brand doesn’t let it get to his heart, the disgraced actor has even seen his number of followers on his YouTube channel skyrocket.

140,000 followers: Brand has that many fans on his YouTube channel, where since 2015 he has mainly posted videos with political commentary and, according to some, spreads conspiracy theories. Brand was the subject of the documentary ‘In Plain Sight’, a joint investigation by Channel 4 with ‘The Times’ and ‘The Sunday Times’. It reveals how Russell has been getting away with terrible sexual misconduct for years. Four women testify about rape, sexual abuse and emotional abuse by the comedian. After the documentary, even more victims came forward. He is also said to have attacked female colleagues at the BBC, where Russell Brand was a prominent media face for years. For example, he is said to have used taxis paid for by the BBC to pick up his then 16-year-old ‘girlfriend’ from school. She is now one of the women claiming that Brand sexually abused them. The BBC has confirmed it is urgently investigating the allegations against Brand during his work for the corporation. The London police are also still investigating the complaints about the comedian.

Due to the allegations, YouTube cut off the advertising revenue from Brand’s channel and various media parties removed content with the actor. Something that would cost him an estimated 1 million pounds (approximately 1.16 million euros). He then begged his fans for money: he asked for 48 pounds (about 55 euros) to subscribe to his Rumble account. That is a similar platform to YouTube, but paying. Since he lost a lot of income four months ago due to the many followers who left his YouTube channel, he looked for another source of income. But now it appears that the Brit can still count on a lot of online interest… And that once again boosts the bank account. For example, ‘Metro’ calculated that Brand would earn between 145,000 (169,000 euros) and 1,200,000 pounds (1.4 million euros) from Rumble since the accusations.
