Signal, an encrypted instant messenger and alternative to WhatsApp from Facebook or Telegram, is currently having major problems with the influx of new users.
The messaging app recently announced that the sending of the verification codes used to create new accounts is delayed due to a flood of new users.
The delay affects several network operators. “We are working with carriers to solve this problem as soon as possible,” said the non-profit foundation Signal in a tweet.
The surge to the messaging platform came just hours after Tesla CEO Elon Musk endorsed the service and reported changes to the WhatsApp Terms of Service. Musk called for the use of Signal.
WhatsApp wants to force its users to approve the sharing of additional data with Facebook. So far, WhatsApp users had the right to restrict the transfer of data.
