Archaeologists from Ruse are conducting rescue excavations in a private property, next to the Roman fortress “Sexaginta Prista”, informs BNT.
Archaeologists are removing layers of soil from the yard of a Ruse resident, which is meters from the Roman castle “Sexaginta Prista” and come across the remains of 3 houses. They also discovered various finds.
“Over 220 are mostly coins, but there are other interesting ones such as brooches, bars, loom weights. For now, most of them are from the period of 4-5 century, but there are also earlier ones, we do not know only whether there are Thracian materials, as there are in the other area “, said the archaeologist Dr. Varbin Varbanov.
It turns out that back in 2007, a specially created commission delineated the supposed boundaries of the former Roman fortress of Sexaginta Prista across the hill, and now archaeologists are prepared for what to expect from the research.
Are there any lost layers on this wreath?
“There is, yes. Before 2007 such buildings were certainly destroyed, but then people observed it. 2015 was the first current intention to build, now it is the second person to call, there will be others. Part of the house is destroyed during the construction of this street in the 60’s “, explained Dr. Varbanov.
According to experts, there are settlements in the country where houses look like from Roman times. In order for people to imagine them, they just have to visit them.
“For example, in Gorsko Ablanovo, where it is still being built in the same way – stone plinth and up with bricks. The roof is with Roman tiles, which are more specific than ours,” said Dr. Varbanov.
Archaeologists expect the excavations to reach layers of the 2-3 century. The reasons for this are given by the ceramics discovered so far.
