This will be the fifth marriage for the 92-year-old billionaire. And the newspaper pointed out that Murdoch offered Smith a special solitaire diamond ring on St. Patrick’s Day (Friday, March 17) in New York City, the New York Post reported..
He told the newspaper: “I was so nervous. I was afraid of falling in love – but I knew this marriage would be the last. It better be so. I’m happy.”.”
The Independent reported that the couple met late last year before making their relationship official at Christmas, when Smith attended a dinner at Murdoch’s home in Mayfair. Smith confirmed that they met in September in Bel Air, California.
And in January, Murdoch was spotted vacationing in Barbados with Smith, 66. They were reportedly hosted by the British billionaire and chairman of the board JCB Anthony Bamford.
The newspaper pointed out that Smith was previously married to Western singer Chester Smith, who died in 2008 at the age of 78. The couple recorded an album together in 2005, titled Captured by Love.
She told the New York Post of her impending nuptials: “For the two of us, it’s a gift from God. We met last September. I’ve been a widow for 14 years. Like Robert, my husband was a businessman.
