Brave celebrities go on adventures in different parts of the world with Grylls. They have to do whatever they can to survive, finding food and water and fighting the elements.
In the previous season, actress Natalie Portman had to get her own drinking water from a dirty shallow river in a Utah canyon. To make the water drinkable, Portman and the host purified it using Bear’s underwear.
Meanwhile, actor Ashton Kutcher went with Behr to the coastal jungle of Costa Rica. During filming, the actor had to jump into the Pacific Ocean from a helicopter, row a canoe and catch fish to feed himself.
Bear Grylls will once again go on an adventure in the wild, this time with actors Bradley Cooper and Benedict Cumberbatch, singer Rita Ora and Cynthia Erivo, as well as other world-famous people. The famous guests of the program, like their predecessors, will be forced to step out of their comfort zone and overcome their fears. For example, Cooper will spend the night on the side of a cliff, while Erivo will cross a frozen waterfall.
The second season of the adventure show “Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge” premieres on Saturday, August 26 at 22.00, on the “National Geographic” channel! While waiting for the premiere, we invite you to get acquainted with the celebrities we will see this season!
An injury put an end to his army career
After graduating from Eton College, Burr, whose real name is Edward Michael Grylls, applied to become a soldier in the British Army’s Special Air Force (SAS).
The selection, which was quite strict, was successfully passed by Baer because he has been involved in sports since early childhood (he has a black belt in karate), climbed mountains and sailed with his father.
In total, Baer spent three years in the SAS, but his military career ended after he fell 500 meters while parachuting over Africa and suffered serious injuries, breaking his spine in three places.
An 18-month rehabilitation followed, after which active military service had to come to an end. However, despite doctors’ predictions, Baer was able to walk again and, at the age of 23, became one of the youngest climbers to climb Everest at the time.
In the army, Baer learned and perfected many survival skills, which later made him a television star known in many countries around the world.

After walking almost the entire world, Baer came up with the idea for the new format of the survival show. Namely, a world-class celebrity is forced to spend 48 hours in the wild.
On the first day, Grylls teaches the famous presenters basic survival skills – how to climb or descend a mountain, how to find and purify water, how to start a fire and more. The next day, the celebrity is left alone in the wild, and he or she must apply the knowledge gained from a survival expert.

Cumberbatch wept with emotion
Benedict Cumberbatch is known to audiences around the world as detective Sherlock Holmes in the BBC series, which was followed by his participation in many Hollywood blockbusters, such as Marvel’s Doctor Strange.
Interestingly, the actor comes from a noble British family, while his grandfather, Henry Carlton Cumberbatch, was a submarine captain in both World War I and World War II.
Taking part in the show, the actor not only overcame obstacles, but was also able to feel a special bond with his grandfather. Namely, Bear Grylls, who has friends in the British army, arranged for a real nuclear submarine to float off the coast of Scotland, where the filming took place.
This, of course, was not easy to do, especially for Baer two days had to keep this surprise a secret from his famous guest. However, the effort was worth it – this was such a touching moment that Cumberbatch did not hide the tears that welled up in his eyes.
Actor Troy Kostur, winner of the 2022 Academy Award “Oscar”, also went with Baer to Scotland. There, the actor and presenter had to descend from a height of 760 and measure a 13-kilometer path along mountain paths and frozen rivers, as well as overcome a 45-high waterfall.
It should be noted that the actor is deaf, so the two men communicated with gestures and special knots on the rope. After all the adventures, the actor could feast on the Scottish national dish “Haggis” – sheep’s stomach with intestines.
Cooper tastes a deer tongue at a dizzying height
American actor Bradley Cooper, who became famous for the comedy “The Hangover” and its sequels, will go on an adventure with Grylls through the rugged canyons of the Wyoming River Basin.
Both will spend the night on a platform, hanging 45 meters above a vertical cliff. On the other hand, the next morning, the Hollywood actor would have breakfast with the stewed deer tongue provided by Beer. It should be noted that the presenter took out the tongue from an already rotten corpse of an animal, adding that he had to feast on much more terrible food, including fried tarantulas.

But this is just the beginning of Cooper’s challenges: the actor will have to survive the snowstorm, relying only on himself and what he will have learned from Bear Grylls.
Viewers will not only learn a lot about nature and survival tricks, but will probably discover the celebrity from a different point of view – often in “Running Wild” they can see and hear things that they would never be able to tell in “traditional” interviews.
For example, Cooper talked about being sober for almost 20 years. In a conversation with Grylls, the actor did not hide that until the age of 29 he had problems with alcohol and prohibited substances, but it was not related to the burden of fame.
Namely, he became famous relatively late – at the age of 36, after the role in “The Hangover”, until then he unsuccessfully tried to seduce Hollywood for ten years and therefore had started using alcohol and drugs.
But Cooper told Grylls that his past addictions helped him better fit into the role of musician Jackson Maine in A Star Is Born. It should be noted that Cooper was also the director and producer of this film. It has been nominated for eight Academy Awards.
Rita Ora drinks purified water with a sock and eats a pigeon
British singer and actress Rita Ora enjoyed an adventure in Nevada’s Valley of Fire. While climbing the mountain, Rita noticed a dead pigeon, which she put in her backpack. Before that, she showed her find to Grylls, who said that the bird was most likely killed by a larger sibling, but that it hadn’t started rotting yet, so it would be fine for dinner.
To cook the dead pigeon, Grill started a fire using Rita’s lip balm. The two then feast on their find. According to their assessment, they tasted as good as the chicken, only the meat was a bit dry. But that’s not the only weird survival skill Ora learned while on the show. She also liked to drink water, which Grylls used a sock to purify, which absorbed moisture well.
Viewers will be able to find out how these and other celebrities will survive in the wild by watching the show “Running Wild with Bear Grylls”, its second season premiering already on Saturday, August 26 at 22.00, on the “National Geographic” channel!
