Running Race in China Hit by Extreme Weather, 16 Runners Killed

The 100 kilometer cross country mountain run race on China crashed extreme weather. As a result, nearly 16 participants in the race were reported were killed.

Reported by AFP on Sunday (23/5/2021), the race was held in the Yellow River Stone Forest near Baiyin City, Gansu Province. At that time, extreme weather suddenly hit the area.

“Extreme weather hit the area during a race held in the Yellow River Rock Forest near Baiyin City in northwestern Gansu province,” Xinhua was quoted as saying by AFP.

Until Sunday (23/5), at 03.00 local time, at least 16 runners were reported to have died. Meanwhile, 5 other runners are reportedly still missing.

“As of 3 a.m. Sunday, 16 people were found dead and five missing people were being rescued. The race has been stopped,” the news agency said.

According to information, the other 151 runners were “safely evacuated” from the extreme “heavy rain”. Efforts to rescue the missing victims are still underway.
