Bandung, IDN Times – The lack of oxygen supply to a number of hospitals has made services for patients with shortness of breath temporarily suspended. Recently, Al Islam Bandung Hospital has announced through its official Instagram account that this hospital is temporarily stopping services for new patients experiencing shortness of breath.
This announcement was made because the oxygen stock in the hospital was very minimal. Meanwhile, patients who are treated and need oxygen must still be treated. The oxygen stock at Al Islam Hospital is estimated to be only sufficient until Monday (5/7/2021) morning.
Director of Al Islam Hospital, Dr Muhammad Iqbal, said that currently there are still many patients being treated with the same complaint of shortness of breath. Because he was worried that new patients would not be handled, Al Islam Hospital temporarily closed for new services for similar patients.
“So there are patients on ventilators, many of whom need oxygen. Don’t let them not be helped,” said Iqbal when contacted by reporters, Sunday (4/7/2021).

He said patients with shortness of breath could be those who were exposed to the corona virus or other diseases that cause shortness of breath. An examination will first be carried out by the hospital to determine whether the patient with shortness of breath can be treated or not.
“Kan is short of breath teh a lot, right, some are COVID, some are not COVID as well. The COVID is not always short of breath, “Iqbal said.

Iqbal also said that currently the supply of oxygen to Al Islam Hospital is getting minimal. Usually producers send oxygen three times a day.
However, because of the high demand for oxygen in various places in the past two to three days, the oxygen supply is problematic. In fact, in this week his party has never received a supply, so they have to come to the producers independently.
“Now it is not sent, but you have to bring it yourself, look for it yourself,” said Iqbal.
Al Islam Hospital Bandung currently has 93 large cylinders and needs liquid oxygen. Liquid oxygen is usually sent every five days. During this pandemic almost every day there are deliveries.

3. The government is expected to intervene to improve oxygen supply

Iqbal also hopes that the government can immediately solve the problem of the increasingly limited oxygen supply. So far, Al Islam Hospital has tried to convey this to related parties, but the results have not been optimal.
Currently, Al Islam Hospital is treating 120 COVID-19 patients. This number has exceeded the capacity of patient beds, which only have 107. As a result, some patients have to be outside the room and queue to get a room.
“There are also those outside who need oxygen cylinders. The ones inside already have oxygen,” concluded Iqbal.
