Who else but Olivier Cabrera ? The Ban Saint-Martin runner is the big winner of this fifth edition of La Marlienne. Cabrera completed the 10km in 34’03.
“I started quickly alone in front, I saw that the second was not very far away. So I kept my pace to finish strong ”, explains the A2M licensee, who was under no pressure this Sunday in Marly. “I was really here for fun. My next big goals are long distance racing in 2023.” Matthieu Losseroy and Jérôme Petry complete the podium, more than a minute behind the winner. “There’s a gap but they did a good race,” Cabrera congratulates. Among the ladies, the queen is called Alexia Van Tol. Entente Sportif Thionville rider Yutz occupies 29th placeAnd place in the general standings, finishing under 40 minutes (38’51).
Nearly 1000 subscribers
La Marlienne is still as popular as ever , despite the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 editions due to Covid. For several editions the ceiling of the race was 1000 participants. “We are not far off with 980 bibs sold. Which is very good given the period, we are quite satisfied,” smiles co-organizer Benjamin Bieber. Among these (almost) a thousand members, almost 250 participants in the children’s race at the Delaitre stadium. All proceeds from the children’s run were donated to the ELA association, which fights against leukodystrophy. A great initiative.
In total, nearly 180 volunteers helped organize the event. “The team of volunteers is our strength. We want to continue to federate it around the race”, assures the other co-organizer Frédéric Casci. In this sense, Marlienne will therefore play extra time on Friday 16 December (8 pm), at the NEC in Marly. A theatrical performance will be performed there and of course volunteers will be invited by the organization.
