Running for President Ganjar, why did Grace Natalie apologize to Megawati?

Sumatra Voice – Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Grace Natalie apologized to the Chairman of the PDI Perjuangan DPP Megawati Soekarnoputri for having nominated Ganjar Pranowo as President.

This apology was conveyed by Grace Natalie after hearing Megawati’s speech insinuating that other parties carried cadres PDIP as presidential candidate.

The coordinator of the Indonesian Democracy Defense Team (TPDI) Petrus Salestinus thinks that PSI does not need to apologize to the PDIP for declaring PDIP cadre Ganjar Pranowo as the PSI’s presidential candidate.

“Deputy Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Indonesian Solidarity Party, Grace Natalie, does not need to apologize to PDIP General Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri, for having declared Ganjar Pranowo, as a potential candidate for President from PSI,” he said, Saturday (14/1/2023).

The reason is because in the PDIP AD and ART, the Political Party Law, and the Election Law do not prohibit a political party from nominating a person as a presidential candidate from cadres of other political parties or from an Indonesian citizen (WNI) who is not a political party cadre, the door has even been opened to coalition.

“The declaration of GP (Ganjar Pranowo), a PDIP cadre as a candidate for the 2024 presidential candidate by the PSI Party is valid, because it is part of the political education process,” he said.

He reminded that the 1945 Constitution requires that a candidate for president or vice president must be an Indonesian citizen since his birth and have never accepted another nationality because of his own will, have never betrayed the country, and be able spiritually and physically to carry out the duties and obligations as president and vice president. .

Thus, even though the GP is a PDI-P cadre, it does not erase the GP’s right to become presidential candidate for another political party, and therefore does not become an obstacle for the GP or for other political parties outside of the PDIP to make GP a candidate for president in 2024, as has been done PSI or PAN in the 2024 Presidential Election.

“Therefore, it is not an obstacle for PSI or PAN or other political parties to recruit GPs to become presidential candidates outside of PDI P,” he said. (AMONG)
