Yesterday a runner was attacked by a bird of prey near Aalbeek in Limburg. The man was left with a big cut on his head.
During a run, 44-year-old Patrick was attacked by the bird, presumably a buzzard. He ignored the road signs because he thought it would be easy, he says 1Limburg. But suddenly he was attacked from behind.
Before the bird of prey could catch him a second time, the man managed to chase it away. Then he went home, where he discovered a gash of eight inches on his head. He was treated for this in the hospital.
Protect Nest
According to Patrick’s wife Clasina, it is not the first time that the aggressive bird of prey has attacked people. “Of course he or she protects a nest with young.” Buzzards with nests are more likely to attack humans if they come too close.
The runner says he does take the warning signs seriously from now on. And his wife would like to warn others: “It is important that other people also know that this is happening.”
