Rungger ladies also shine when they are injured – tennis

TC Rungg Kiku made an impressive home debut in the women’s Serie A1, defeating TC Cagliari 4-0. After last week’s 2-2 draw, the players coached by coaches Daniele Ceraudo and Georg Winkler managed a flawless victory, despite the ailing Lara Pfeifer and Verena Meliss.

The two players were not fully fit: Pfeifer was hampered by an inflammation of his right wrist, while Meliss only played in doubles due to a leg injury. Nevertheless, both showed strong performances.

The Spaniard Angela Fita Boluda continued her winning streak and secured her third win in the third game against the higher ranked Nuria Brancaccio (WTA 230) 6:3, 6:2. Newcomer Silvia Ambrosio delivered the closest match against Bulgarian Gergana Ivanova Topalova (WTA 288). In the second set, Ambrosio turned around a 2-4 deficit and ultimately won in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Lara Pfeifer.

Lara Pfeifer showed a fighting performance in her singles match against Barbara Dessolis (WTA 1327) despite her injury-related problems on the forehand. In both sets she showed strong nerves in the crucial moments, took risks and secured a narrow 7:5, 6:4 victory.

In doubles, Angela Fita Boluda and Verena Meliss finished last. After an even game against Brancaccio and Dessolis, they decided the match in the champions tiebreak with 6:3, 3:6 and 10:5 and secured the 4:0 for TC Rungg.

With this victory, the Überetscher women moved to the top of the table and have the opportunity to consolidate this in the next two home games.
