In mid-January, the trial against Rune Breili took place in the Vestfold District Court.
Økokrim believes he gave misleading information in connection with two cottage developments within the 100-metre belt in the beach zone on Tjøme;
In Neholmveien there were plans for a large-scale renovation costing NOK 27 million. Økokrim believes that Breili failed to apply in the correct way in order to have it built as the cabin owner wanted. The project never came to fruition.
In Havnaveien, a larger building than was permitted was built. Rune Breili was responsible applicant. The cabin is owned by the comedian couple Pernille Sørensen and Dagfinn Lyngbø.
Breili has always claimed that he did not try to deceive the municipality.
On Thursday afternoon, the verdict came from the Vestfold District Court – Breili has been sentenced to 90 days in prison for several breaches of the Planning and Building Act.
– We disagree
The sentence is exactly as long as what Økokrim wanted and is a so-called additional sentence.
These two projects are linked to a previous corruption conviction against Breili and former head of construction in Tjøme municipality.
– We have received the verdict and must study it before we know what to do. We disagree with the verdict and Breili is naturally disappointed, says Breili’s defender, Thomas Skjelbred to NRK.
Skjelbred asked for a full acquittal when the case went to court. They emphasized that the applications have been approved by the municipality, but Økokrim believes that the application papers do not match what was actually designed or built by Sørensen and Lyngbø.
In the judgment from the district court, however, there is no doubt who is responsible.
– The court understands that the case has also had major personal consequences for Rune Breili himself. Unfortunately, this is a direct consequence of his own actions, and cannot be mitigating when sentencing, the judgment states.

Eco-crime took off
In the district court, Økokrim did little to interfere when the case was going on there.
– The defendant’s greed and self-confidence prevailed. Had the Tjøme case not exploded, Neholmveien would have been built, said the first state attorney in Økokrim, Hans Tore Høviskeland.
NRK has not yet contacted Økokrim for comments on the verdict.
TO BE COMPLETELY RENOVATED: The cabin in Neholmveien on Tjøme was bought for over NOK 30 million in 2015 and was to be completely renovated. Rune Breili was hired as an architect and responsible for the applications to the municipality.
