VSIA “Latvian ConcertsDuring the “Early Music Festival” organized on July 9, Rundāle Castle will host a concert day for the little ones – from 1.30 pm children will have the opportunity to participate in various creative workshops led by experienced artists and craftsmen. Rundāle Castle The concert stage “King Strazdubārda” will start on the big stage of the garden – the compositions of early music will be complemented by gorgeous costumes, authentic medieval and baroque instruments, fascinating fairy tale characters. Well-known performing artists in Latvia, as well as students of the Riga Ballet School will take part in the concert performance.

The well-known fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm “King Strazdubārda” will be performed in the compositions of the outstanding master of baroque music, English composer Henry Persel, according to Ieva Mora, a public relations specialist at VISA “Latvijas Koncerti”. The tale tells how the old king decided to marry his daughter, a princess. However, on a whim, the princess laughs at everyone who comes to ask for her hand, dedicating the worst ridicule and nickname “Strazdubārda” to the last candidate for marriage. Well, the old king’s patience is full and the princess is married to a beggar. What is really behind the image of a beggar and how the princess will be reprimanded to overcome her nasty character will be revealed during the concert.
Well-known performing artists in Latvia – Beāte Zviedre, Jānis Kurševs, Kalvis Kalniņš, Ilona Bagele, Juris Kaukulis, as well as soloists of the Latvian Radio Choir – Agate Pooka, Kārlis Rūtentāls, Jānis Kokins will take part in the roles. The musical accompaniment will be composed by harpsichordist Pēteris Vaickovskis, baroque violinist Raimonds Melderis, baroque cellist Ainārs Paukšēns, baroque viola player Zane Dziesma, lute player Lenards Gotlubs and master of ancient wind instruments Ieva Nīmane. Students of the Riga Ballet School will supplement the concert performance with dances, the concert will be conducted by the attractive Karina Bērziņa.
