VALENCIA. (EP) The RunCáncer Valencia Circuit, organized by the Association Against Cancer in Valencia, will kick off this year’s edition in March, in which it will reach more than 100 towns with a hundred marches and twelve 100% races solidarity with the aim of exceeding the 360,000 euros in collection achieved in 2022.
Specifically, RunCáncer, which has the main support of the Valencia Provincial Council, CaixaBank and the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation, will inaugurate its 9th edition on March 26 with a march and a race in Paterna, which this year joins the circuit .
The director of the Circuit, Javier Llombart, has assured that in each RunCáncer event “we will continue to spread the values of solidarity and sustainability, as well as the importance of continuing to contribute against cancer in order to continue helping through research” .
In his speech, the president of the Association Against Cancer in Valencia, Tomás Trénor, highlighted that the circuit has already managed to add more than 1,800,000 euros since it began in 2015, “nine years turning your solidarity into prevention and research with about 40 active cancer research projects.
Trénor said goodbye inviting everyone “to continue working together and to spread what is done in RunCáncer so that more and more people join this initiative to continue adding and fighting against cancer”.
During the presentation ceremony, the Association Against Cancer in Valencia took the opportunity to deliver one of the six pre-doctoral grants awarded this last year thanks to the collection of the circuit.
Thanks to this aid, the young Ana Ágreda, recipient of it, will carry out her doctoral thesis in the Molecular Biology of Breast Cancer group at the Incliva Health Research Institute. Specifically, the project, financed with 88,000 euros and with a duration of four years, will deal with the treatment of HER2+ breast cancer through the search for new targets or weak points of the tumor on which to act with drugs.
Specifically, the project will focus on a molecule that this group previously confirmed to be involved in resistance to treatments for this type of cancer, called AXL, with the ultimate goal of developing new therapies with clinical implications.
After receiving the scholarship, the young researcher has expressed her gratitude to the Spanish Association Against Cancer, as well as to each of the people who at some point in their lives have collaborated with the Association or with RunCáncer, making the development of this research possible. Against the breast cancer.
At this point, Tomás Trénor has advanced that one of the pre-doctoral grants that will be awarded this 2023 will bear the solidarity seal of three of RunCáncer’s sponsors. “Thanks to the extra effort of AquaService, Cecotec and Grupo Bertolín, we will finance one of the scholarships for this new edition of the circuit”, he explained.
The Circuit will return, in its 9th edition, to flood the streets of more than 100 Valencian towns with movement and solidarity. Starting with Paterna and continuing with Jarafuel, l’Eliana, Buñol, Pedralba, Torrent, Llíria or Nàquera.
Thus, up to more than a hundred municipalities that will host a march or race against cancer throughout this year, “something that makes this circuit unique”, has assured the vice president of the Valencia Provincial Council, Carlos Bielsa.
Of course, long-awaited appointments such as Gandia, Torrent or Valencia will not be missing. In addition, this 2023 will not miss the March and Race against Cancer in l’Alcúdia, the host town of this presentation event and which has been part of the circuit since its inception.
Its mayor, Andreu Salom, who has been in charge of inaugurating the meeting, has advanced that the race and march of l’Alcúdia will be held in the month of September and that the Local Board and the City Council “will be at the foot of the canyon so that , one more year, this test is a success of solidarity against cancer”. “It is a pride to be able to say that l’Alcúdia has supported this project since its inception in 2015”, assured Salom, who added that “we hope to do so for many more years”.
