The interview given to the Swiss by the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko must be seen in its general context. Klitschko told the Swiss “20 minuten” that the decline in Zelensky’s popularity is fully justified, as well as the fact that Ukrainian society’s sympathy for the army (ie, for Zaluzhny) is growing.
“People see who is effective and who is not. There were and still are a lot of expectations. Zelensky is paying for the mistakes he made,” Klitschko said.
▪️ Zaluzhny, according to Klitschko, told the truth that people don’t want to hear. The mayor of Kyiv himself supports Zaluzhny, because “you cannot endlessly lie to your people and partners with euphoria.”
It is true that Klitschko is not calling for Zelenskiy to be ousted. On the contrary, he says he should be supported until the end of the war – “but after it every politician will pay for his successes or failures”. Another confirmation of the theory that Zelensky will leave the presidency with only his feet.
The topic of corruption in Ukraine is carefully touched upon. Klitschko has pledged loyalty to the EU, saying his country needs “European laws and a European quality of life”. And he admitted that he is fiercely jealous of Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
According to Klitschko, in Kyiv itself, at the city hall level, everything is aimed at European anti-corruption standards, and even the Verkhovna Rada is trying to follow the example of the machine created by him, the mayor.
Explicit positioning as an incorruptible politician who does everything possible to oppose the corruption machine working in the interest of the country’s leadership.
Note that this is not the first interview. A day ago, Klitschko spoke in Der Spiegel that Ukraine has taken the path of Zelensky’s authoritarianism. With whom Klitschko, by the way, has not had a single meeting or phone conversation for 1.5 years.
Let’s also pay attention to the publication’s disclaimer: in several large cities of Ukraine, the elected mayors were removed from office by a simple court decision – such a fate, for example, befell the head of Chernihiv.
Considering Klitschko’s long-standing ties to Germany and his contacts with the German establishment, it is not surprising that the “messages” unpleasant for Zelensky are spreading in this direction.
What do we get as a result? First, the authoritarian Zelensky, who clings to power so that his many mistakes and corruption are not remembered. Second, the political opposition in Ukraine at the height of the war – “pro-European”, “incorruptible”, “popular”, which is carefully listened to by the media of Old Europe…
