Atmospheric images
Unfortunately, the plot isn’t particularly original and horror elements aren’t used particularly innovatively either. In the first third, some questions are raised that are unfortunately not adequately answered in the course of the story. In the second half of the film, the narration falls into constant repetition and one has the feeling of going in circles narratively.
The greatest strength of “Run Rabbit Run” is clearly the impressive pictures. Since this is an indie production, the film is structured like a chamber play and is only set in a few locations.
However, cinematographer Bonnie Elliott manages to create gripping images even with limited space. The play with light and shadow is at the highest level and paired with a detailed scene design, the horror of the main character is palpable, even if the script has weaknesses. In contrast to the closed rooms are the wide landscapes of Australia, which come into play here in the pale sunshine.
