A petition against the continuation of the ‘Orange Day’ test event of Radio 538 in Breda was signed by tens of thousands of people within a few hours. The campaign was started by Rogier Crolla, surgeon at the Bredase Amphia Hospital, with the support of colleagues in healthcare. By ten o’clock on Saturday evening there were already 40,000 signers.
With 538 disdain for concern, is the cry for help. “10,000 partygoers with 538 on the Chasséveld: a blow to the care providers in the hospital 400 meters away. Stop this event! ” The commercial radio station wants to organize a ‘538 Orange Day’ on Saturday, April 24, as part of the test events where Minister Hugo de Jonge wants to kick-start public life in Corona time.

On behalf of ‘concerned caregivers, patients on increasingly longer waiting lists, their loved ones and others’, the surgeon from the Amphia started the petition against 538 Orange Day, which will be held on the Chasséveld on Saturday 24 April. The healthcare workers want the ‘pseudo-experiment’ to be canceled. “Celebrating a party with 10,000 people 400 meters from a hospital overloaded by Covid is a blow in the face of patients and caregivers,” the page of the petition reads. The petition under the name ‘With 538 scorned care’ has already been signed more than 3,000 times in less than a day and the counter is still running. Breda Today writes that the surgeon and his colleagues aren’t the only ones to criticize the party.
The local catering industry is also not happy with the arrival of 538 Orange Day. Earlier this week, catering entrepreneur Patrick van Asch already wrote an open letter to Mayor Paul Depla, in which he wrote that he finds the event insane and unacceptable. Partly because it is organized a stone’s throw from the closed catering establishments. However, according to the mayor, more experience can be gained from the event on how to organize large-scale outdoor events. In addition, he indicates that it is of course disappointing that the terraces are not open. But the terraces won’t open anyway if we say no to 538. “Let’s not oppose each other. But together we look at how we can do beautiful things again in a safe way after this protracted crisis. ”

After the start of the sale, there was a run on the tickets. It turned out that more than 1 million applications had been received to qualify for the lottery.
From VRT writes:
10,000 people are allowed to be present at the Chasséveld in Breda at the music station’s Fieldlab experiment. (…) Due to the corona pandemic, the hospital has reduced its operating capacity by at least half and the operating rooms are only available for acute and urgent care. Doctors assess daily whether surgery is really necessary or can be postponed. An Amphia spokesperson said earlier that he was concerned about the party, because the use of drugs or alcohol can lead to acute medical situations.
