Rumours of Child Abduction Circulate on Social Networks in Plovdiv, Prompting Police Response

Fake publications on social networks raised the police in Plovdiv. The same photo of a car was circulated in various posts with a warning that they were driving around neighborhoods in the district and stealing children.

In the last 24 hours alone, more than 50 reports have been received from worried people who thought their families were in danger.

To prevent psychosis from setting in, the police categorically denied these rumors. At an extraordinary press conference, they clarified that the car filmed belongs to a 53-year-old man from Plovdiv, who has no criminal record, BNT reported.

Authorities in Poland denied rumors that a Bulgarian bus kidnapped children

He was filmed while passing through the village of Kalekovets on his way back from Plovdiv with his relatives. The uniformed officers are checking all the signals and are yet to report the collected information to the prosecutor’s office.

“The most common story: people call 112 and say that they heard from someone that their children were going to be taken. So far, not a single missing child has been declared missing in the territory of the district. The reports are unconfirmed and are invalid. I appeal for such an understanding, for common sense and calmness from this ethnic group. We have taken all measures for their security. We have saturated the Roma neighborhoods with police patrols,” said Commissioner Sulko Litov – Deputy Director of the Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior-Plovdiv.
