Rumors that Indomobil will take control of Mercedes-Benz

Jakarta

The Indomobil group is rumored to take over the Mercedes-Benz passenger car brand. As is known, the Mercedes-Benz passenger car model is currently owned by PT Mercedes-Benz Distribution Indonesia (MBDI).

Mercedes-Benz is said to be looking for opportunities by looking for new partners in Indonesia. One of the related ones is the Indomobil Group.

“So Mercedes-Benz is looking for partners. Yes, they are looking left and right, what are the opportunities,” said Indomobil Group officials quoted by CNN Indonesia.com, Wednesday (26/10).

It is unclear what Mercedes-Benz sales will be like in Indonesia. Mercedes-Benz has not yet opened up to rumors of a move to the Indomobil Group.

The president, director of PT Mercedes-Benz Distribution Indonesia, Choi Duk Jun, said there was no information that could be passed on. On the other hand, PT MBDI’s Deputy Director of Sales Operation & Product Management, Hari Arifianto, chose not to comment on the rumors about Mercedes-Benz’s entry into the Indomobil group.

“Unable to provide confirmation, insufficient information, fear of misleading,” Hari told the Kempinski Hotel on Wednesday (10/26/2022).

For information, Indomobil Group is a large automotive company that hosts several brands such as Suzuki, Volkswagen, Kia, Audi, Nissan, Jaguar Land Rover, Citroen, Hino, Volvo Commercial and Renault Trucks. While on two wheels, Indomobil will also take over Harley-Davidson, which will begin in 2023.

Mercedes-Benz has a long history in Indonesia, starting with the first vehicle in Indonesia, the Benz Victoria Phaeton in 1894. The Mercedes-Benz company was then founded in Indonesia in 1970 and currently consists of two companies, PT Mercedes- Benz Distribution Indonesia and PT Mercedes-Benz Indonesia.

PT Mercedes-Benz Indonesia locally assembles its flagship passenger vehicles: the A-Class, C-Class, E-Class and S-Class sedans, the GLA, GLC, GLE and GLS SUVs, as well as the Mercedes-AMG A 35 Sedan and Mercedes models – AMG GLA 35 in a 42 hectare factory in Wanaherang, Bogor, West Java. In 2009, the Mercedes-Benz Indonesia plant was declared an Eco-Industry certified automotive manufacturer by TUV-Rheinland.
