Another source has joined the discussion about the upcoming series GeForce RTX 40 SUPER. In addition to past news from reputable hardware sources, Benchlife now claims that they have received fresh information from their high-ranking informants. However, important details such as full specifications and release date remain in question.
NVIDIA often shares preliminary information with partners on the board of directors, but not entirely by calling them by their real names. Therefore, when board manufacturers (AIBs) notice a new model that uses the same board design as the RTX 4080 but with a different memory configuration, it strongly suggests the possibility of an upgrade to the SUPER or Ti model.
Benchlife indicates that the purported RTX 4080 update could include 20 GB memory. They didn’t explicitly label it SUPER, so theoretically it could just be another RTX 4080. However, given that NVIDIA has already canceled the 4080 12GB version, this seems unlikely.
RTX 4080 -> RTX 4080 SUPER:
GPU – AD103 -> AD102
Memory – 16 GB -> 20 GB
Bus – 256-bit -> 320-bit
RTX 4070 → RTX 4070 SUPER:
GPU – AD104 -> AD103
Memory -12 GB -> 16 GB (?)
Bus -192-bit -> 256-bit (?)
20 GB memory configuration requires wider 320-bit memory bus, which could potentially explain earlier rumors that the RTX 4080 would use the AD102 GPU, since the AD103 lacks the required memory bus. Moreover, this means that RTX 4070 SUPER the memory capacity can also be increased to 16 GB, especially since it is rumored that the AD103 GPU will now be used.
It’s worth noting that by adding 20GB to the RTX 4080 SUPER card, NVIDIA will offer a memory configuration similar to the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT. In fact, both companies will have very similar lineups of high-end models in terms of memory, but with 24GB, 20GB, and 16GB variants.
It’s worth noting that at this stage everything remains an unverified rumor, neither NVIDIA nor any other trusted source has officially confirmed plans for the RTX 40 SUPER series, but as we get closer to the release date, more details are expected to gradually be revealed.
