Tonight we met the CEO of the Gedi group Maurizio Scanavino to ask him for clarification regarding the rumors of the Espresso sale to the Bfc Media publishing group controlled by the Iervolino family. Faced with requests from the editorial board, the CEO stated that the company has not received “any formalized proposals”.
After months of denials and declarations to the contrary, without a clear plan of initiatives and development for the magazine ever being presented to the editorial staff in recent years, the will to sell is actually admitted for the first time.
The editors of Espresso denounce business plans that aim to cut a free and critical voice in the Italian journalistic landscape, the newspaper founded by Carlo Caracciolo and Eugenio Scalfari from which the Espresso publishing group was born, the newspaper Repubblica which then expanded to the group Gedi.
We are worried about the fate of our weekly and all the newspapers of a publisher who did not scruple to define the first Italian newsmagazine as “inconsistent with the strategies of the group”.
In light of this, the assembly of journalists delivered a package of strike days to the CDR, reserving any further initiative to protect the work of the editorial staff and the value of a publication with 67 years of history, protagonist of civil, political and cultural battles. which have had a decisive impact on our society.
