According to sources of Insider Gaming should Sony continue to develop a new portable Playstation. The device is said to have the code name “Q Lite” and is intended to be used for remote gaming together with a Playstation 5 console. This is thus different from Sony’s two portable game consoles, Sony PSP and Playstation Vita, which operate independently and have their own game libraries.
The early prototypes of the “Q Lite” hardware are said to look like a Playstation 5 controller stuck with an eight-inch LCD touchscreen in the middle. It should be able to stream content in 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second, and requires a constant internet connection to use.
There is currently no information that the portable Playstation unit could also be used for any form of cloud gaming. The plan is said to be to release the Playstation portable before the Playstation 5 Pro, which is reportedly slated for a Christmas 2024 release.
