Hamburg media report that the head coach of basketball Bundesliga club s.Oliver Würzburg is a hot candidate for the position with league competitor Hamburg. What’s really on.

It was the last game of the season – but nobody knew that back then, that evening of March 6th. Because Corona had also gone to Germany, there were warnings – but no one could really estimate the drastic consequences. Almost exactly twelve weeks ago it was that basketball Bundesliga club s.Oliver Würzburg just received a 77:95 home swatter against Brose Bamberg – but had given the followers the happy customer before the ball, the contract with head coach Denis Wucherer to have extended two more years until summer 2022. And now, three months and zero games later? Several Hamburg media wrote that the usurer, who had recently turned 47, was the hottest candidate for the head coach position at Würzburg’s league competitor Hamburg Towers.
There, Marvin Willoughby is the managing director and sporting director and has decided not to extend the now expiring contract with promotion coach Mike Taylor. Willoughby and Wucherer were briefly in Würzburg in 2001 and teammates in the national team for many years. And Baskets sports manager Kresimir Loncar is also friendly with Hamburg. While the “Hamburger Abendblatt”, in addition to Wucherer, at least Thorsten Leibenath, long-time successful trainer at ratiopharm Ulm and currently sports director there, relies on the Towers wish list, the Hamburg “Bild-Zeitung” writes exclusively from the Baskets trainer as a hot candidate for the Taylor’s successor. Wucherer apparently also gave information to the tabloid, the paper writes a text message and quotes it like this: “The fact is that I have a contract in Würzburg. It is also a fact that Corona is changing the market and various teams are waiting for a BBL announcement ( Start of the season, when and how, with or without spectators) to find out for yourself whether they can make it through this crisis economically and start next season with a BBL-capable squad. That includes Würzburg. ”Then Wucherer designates the Hamburg club is still “very interesting” and says that “with this great budget you cannot play against relegation a second time”.

The Towers won only three out of 20 games (all interestingly away) in their first Bundesliga season and were bottom of the table – with an alleged total budget of 4.5 million euros, and from what you can hear in the scene, was also the Hamburg player’s budget much larger than that of Würzburg (who were eighth before the Corona break with eleven wins from 21 games). Recently, Baskets managing director Steffen Liebler emphasized again that the club must continue to fight for its existence.
