Rumor: Twitter board wants to reject Musk’s takeover offer – IT Pro – News

Exactly that. Many people seem to think that completely abolishing rules regarding posting on a platform like Twitter will lead to a kind of enlightened Valhalla of open discussions etc.

That is the libertine philosophy: “Less government is better”. That statement is correct. With the proposals they make it is better for them, at the expense of others.

What I foresee is a kind of circle-jerk dung screaming after untruths, bubbles that stir each other up to harm certain people who do something wrong in their eyes. Advertisers who walk away because they don’t want to see their ads between those types of posts.

It’s also a bit of going against the grain. Normally a platform starts small, pushes the boundaries of the law, becomes popular, goes public, gets a scandal or two, and then gets a little more serious with user-generated content. The other way around will not work, because that is risky for shareholders.

Going against the grain can pay off, but I don’t think it’s going to work here. No regulation on Twitter means Musk is opening himself up to government fines. The last thing an ‘enterpreneur’ wants to do is get picked on by governments, because that would be a shame.
