Rumor: PlayStation 5 Pro easily reaches 120 FPS even without optimization and PSSR

According to a new report, the PlayStation 5 Pro has no problem running games at 120 FPS.

In the latest episode of the Moore’s Law is Dead Broken Silicon podcast, the host Tom revealed that he received footage of the PS5 Pro gameplay from an unnamed developer. The game ran at an average dynamic resolution of 1440p, between 1300p and 1600p at 50fps. However, when unlocking the frame rate, the average rose to 100 FPS and above, without any optimization for the PS5 Pro.

The developer expressed confidence that with additional optimization and the use of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), the game will be able to run stably at 1440p and 1600p resolutions with a fixed frame rate of 120 FPS, which is impressive for a console. In addition, the developer plans to test the game at 4K at 60 FPS and is confident that it can achieve this goal.

After the announcement of the PS5 Pro, Sony gave several publications the opportunity to test the system. Among them was Digital Foundry, which highlighted improvements to various games. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was especially noted, because the game did not show the best picture on the PS5 base model in performance mode.

PlayStation 5 Pro will be released on November 7, 2024.
