Microsoft may be planning to release a refresh of its Xbox Series X and S consoles. The lower-ranked Series S would be the first to get a new version, with an AMD soc made on TSMC’s 6nm process.
According to YouTube user Moore’s Law is Dead the Xbox Series S refresh would appear in 2022. A refresh of the Xbox Series X might follow in 2023 or later, but the YouTuber does not share any details about that yet.
The 6nm soc in this Series S console might offer better specs than the current Series S. According to the YouTube user, the move to TSMC’s 6nm node should provide better yields, which may allow Microsoft to provide the full 24 compute units of the soc. The current Xbox Series S has 20 compute units. The clock speeds could also be higher in the new variant.
Moore’s Law is Dead claims that the alleged console refresh would get a higher price. The updated Xbox Series S would cost $349; a $50 price increase over the current Xbox Series S. This old variant may remain available at a lower price of $189 to $249.
