Rumor has it that the classic SoulCalibur games are getting a remake

Remasters are all the rage these days, so what’s next? The latest rumor is that Bandai Namco may be working on a Soul Calibur collection.

This information comes from recent reporter Nick “shspecial_nick” Baker Xbox era podcast. Baker notes how his source material isn’t really made clear whether it’s a remaster of the first game in the long-running fighting series or an entire collection of previous entries:

“We all love remasters and everyone loves a good remaster… so I heard Namco might be looking into that. [unclear] Do we get the original SoulCalibur remastered, or do they do a bunch of remastered games…”

If it were a bundle, it would include SoulCalibur II – originally released for the GameCube and multiple platforms in 2003 (and featuring a GameCube-exclusive battle patch for Zelda). Although only the Xbox version is mentioned when discussing these rumors, Bandai Namco tends to port its fighting games to as many platforms as possible.

Interestingly, this rumor has been going around since Bandai Namco renewed the SoulCalibur brand in October last year. Although brand updates aren’t widely publicized very often, quite a few Bandai Namco editors have appeared this way lately.

These games include Transformers Glonoa, Pac-Man, and most recently the GameCube exclusive Baton Kaitos, which was rebranded in May 2021 and is now getting remasters of the first two games later this year.
