Rumor: Forza Motorsport also coming to Xbox One consoles – Gaming – News

I think a lot of the limitation of not having new features is also due to the limited ram upgrade. The Xbox One had 8GB of shared memory, and the Xbox Series X has 16GB. Given the shared memory, a large part of this will be used to support 4K textures and there is little room for other improvements. Even though you run at a lower resolution in practice, when developing the games, the devs have to assume the RAM usage in 4K mode as well. The Xbox Series S is in between with 12GB of ram, but also has a maximum supported resolution of 1440P which is nicely in between. Developers therefore also indicate that the lower RAM of the Series S causes few problems when developing Xbox Series S|X games.

The main gains that the new generation can offer in terms of features are in the better CPU and faster storage. Race games generally benefit more from extra GPU power and less from extra CPU power. The AI, something that is often CPU intensive, is relatively simple in racing games eg. How accurate the simulation is (influence of weather, road surface, etc.) is already very doable without a top of the line CPU and also falls to scale (although that becomes a problem with cross-gen multiplayer, then the better console would still have to fall back to the lower settings, FM7 was already cross-play between xbox and PC and therefore only seemed to use 1 setting for that, it seems to me that the new FM will also be cross-play with PCs and thus is already optimized for lesser CPUs when it comes to simulation).

I understand your frustration, but I don’t think there’s much to gain from a racing game like Forza Motorsport, which is already more on the arcade side of racing, if you made the title exclusive to the new generation. A game like Cyberpunk2077, with its many AI intensive NPCs would have benefited more
