If this test was carried out on a prototype iPhone 12, it has in any case a very clear gain in performance. Its single-core score of 1,658 points is higher than that of the iPhone 11 Pro (around 1,300), but it is on the multi-core that the gap widens: 4,612 on this bench, against around 3,500 for the iPhone of 2019. For comparison, that’s roughly the multi-core score from a 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro.
The explanation behind these excellent scores could be found in the frequency of the processor. According to the image published by IceUniverse, the Apple A14 could exceed 3 GHz, a first for a mobile ARM processor. To reach these values without ruining the autonomy and avoiding overheating, Apple should be able to count on an even finer engraving. According to rumors, the Apple A14 would be engraved at 5 nm by TSMC, against 7 nm on current chips.
