/ world today news/ Head of State Rumen Radev took part in the solemn ceremony at “Unification” Square in Chirpan on the occasion of the 136th anniversary of the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia.
The President accepted the Order of Honor and then delivered a speech. In his speech to dozens of official guests and citizens of Chirpan, he defined the Unification as “the first brilliant, successful episode in our new history and the apogee of our ancestors’ aspiration towards a free, united, strong and modern Bulgaria”.
The head of state also recalled the feat of the Chirpan detachment, which was leaving for Plovdiv to participate in the events of September 6.
“It was they who turned the Unification into a victory for the Bulgarian spirit, a triumph of personal courage and the will of the people, a success of statesmanship and wisdom in the name of the national ideal,” declared Rumen Radev. He urged the Chirpanlians to preserve the memory of their ancestors and pass it on to future generations
“Because I believe that this invisible thread of memory and honor will continue to inspire us, show us the way, give us strength to pave our way to tomorrow together as a nation,” added the head of state.
The ceremony ended with a solemn dawn inspection, and at the end the head of state received a painting as a gift. Tomorrow, the celebrations for the holiday of Chirpan and the 136th anniversary of the Unification continue with a solemn session of the Municipal Council and liturgy.
