Rumen Radev

President Rumen Radev held a telephone conversation with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during which topics on the bilateral relations agenda and current issues on the European agenda were discussed in light of the forthcoming European Council in Brussels. This was announced by the press office of the head of state.

Accelerating the establishment of the gas interconnection between Bulgaria and Greece, strengthening the connectivity between the two countries through the opening of the new border checkpoint “Rudozem-Xanthi”, as well as other issues of common interest were the focus of the conversation. Rumen Radev and Kyriakos Mitsotakis confirmed the readiness of the two countries to work in close partnership to strengthen stability and security in our region.

President Radev expressed to the Greek Prime Minister Bulgaria’s position regarding the EU enlargement process. The European integration of the Republic of Northern Macedonia is in the interest of both Bulgaria and the region, but requires political will to resolve open issues in an open bilateral dialogue between Sofia and Skopje, not through constant efforts to achieve external pressure on our country. Only in this way will unresolved problems be introduced into the EU, European values will be protected and the path of our southwestern neighbor to its full European integration will be opened, said President Rumen Radev.
