Rumen Radev: Change requires a general view of Bulgaria’s future, not narrow political interests – 2024-04-19 04:53:15

/ world today news/ The situation in the country can only change when the political parties realize that there must be dialogue, compromise and a common vision aimed at the future of Bulgaria, and not at narrow party political interests. This was stated today by the head of state Rumen Radev to journalists in Kardzhali. The president is visiting the city at the invitation of the regional governor of the Kardzhali region, Daniel Delchev.

“We see that for two parliaments we have a stagnation and a hopeless situation that repeats itself,” commented Rumen Radev. According to the head of state, after the upcoming third elections within a year, the parties are obliged to understand that in a parliamentary republic, change can only happen with a new way of thinking and awareness of the responsibility to the Bulgarian people.

In relation to the organization and conduct of the elections in November, the president indicated that he expects them to be as fair as the previous ones and called on the responsible institutions to take all necessary measures to prevent manipulation of the vote. “We still have vote buying – it’s a shameful phenomenon. An EU member state cannot allow votes to be bought and citizens’ votes to be distorted,” Rumen Radev added.

In response to a question, the head of state stated that he accepts the registration of the BSP to participate in the presidential elections as an indication of support. “I have repeatedly said that I do not interfere in the kitchen of any party. BSP is a party with clear traditions, with clear statutes and procedures. They follow their statutory procedures,” said Rumen Radev.

Asked to comment on whether the withdrawn confidence of the DPS will have a negative impact on his campaign for the presidential elections, Rumen Radev stated that the Bulgarian Constitution does not divide citizens on ethnic and religious grounds, and no party has the right to appropriate people’s votes, divide them and to speak on their behalf. “Every citizen in our country is free to express his opinion and cast his vote during elections,” added the head of state.

According to the president, the proposal to remove the chairman of the State Agency “Technical Operations” from his position is late given the wiretapping scandals of the last year. Rumen Radev added that he is yet to learn the government’s reasons for proposing to issue a decree to terminate the powers of the agency’s current chairman.

In response to a question about the decision announced today by the KPKONPI regarding the member of the CEM, Sonja Momchilova, the president called for a distinction to be made between appointment and entry into the performance of duties. “When Sonya Momchilova entered into the performance of her duties as a member of the CEM, she had no obligations,” the head of state reminded.

Earlier in the day, President Rumen Radev held a meeting with the regional governor of Kardzhali, Daniel Delchev. During the conversation, the prospects for the development of the region, the opportunities to stimulate investments and the increase of jobs were discussed. The two presented flowers to the monument of the Apostle of Freedom in the center of the city.

The head of state visited the Regional History Museum of Kardzhali, where he talked with citizens and presented diplomas to the world champions of the school volleyball competition.
