Rumen Petkov on the candidacy for Interior Minister: I did not think that the fall in the country could end here

RUMEN PETKOV

Petar Iliev’s participation in the draft cabinet is essentially a blow to Bulgaria’s name. Thus, the former Minister of Interior and Chairman of the ABV Party, which is a coalition partner of the BSP Rumen Petkov commented on the announced candidacy for Interior Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of ITN. He clarified his principled position, emphasizing that it has not changed since Petar Iliev was nominated in the first presented draft cabinet and added that such a type is absurd as participation in a government.

“Subsequently, he rose from Minister of Justice to candidate for Prime Minister, now he is a candidate for Minister of Interior. As one MP says – the dependencies are such that there may be no cabinet, but there will be a candidate Petar Iliev.

Petkov stressed that his remarks about the identity of the candidate for interior minister are not personal, as he does not know him personally. But he is proud of this ignorance.

“Mr. Trifonov must see the shamelessness, the arrogance, the radiance. Trifonov has worked with people all his life and these things should not be overlooked by him. This cynicism and arrogant impudence does not even look like a mailman at school, not a teacher at a university. I ask a deep question in principle whether it is permissible and appropriate to appoint a public office to a person who has written commitments to another state. Isn’t this a conflict of interests and whose interests will this person defend – to the state of Barbados, where he has a written commitment, or to the Republic of Bulgaria, which he claims to lead. This is such recklessness and I still do not understand what are the arguments with which they press Mr. Trifonov to continue to be in the draft. Even if we ignore the vulgar arrogance, the vulgarism, but we are talking about the Bulgarian state and the Bulgarian statehood and how we look in the eyes of the Bulgarian citizens and our partners. We nominate an honorary consul of another country, who has made a written commitment to another country, as Minister of the Interior. How much of the specific information in the Ministry of Interior will be provided to Barbados? Will he be able to control the outflow of money from Bulgaria to Barbados, if any? These are extremely difficult questions and I feel very uncomfortable when I ask them. I did not think that the fall in the country could get this far. If the goal is for Mr. Trifonov to turn the government he is proposing on his own, this person can remain in the composition. His participation is essentially a blow to the name of Bulgaria. Over the years we have imposed the practice in official cases of Rodina to be drunk with a capital P and today we will be ruled by the Honorary Consul of Barbados. I very much hope that this topic will be closed today by removing this phenomenon from the draft. “
