Thus, the chairman of the ABV, Rumen Petkov, part of the “LEFT!”, described to the media the events of yesterday, when the demolition of the Monument to the Soviet Army began. There are gross violations of the Law on Cultural Heritage and that is why ABV, with a letter under the Act on Cultural Heritage to the Ministry of Culture, will seek information on whether consultations have been carried out and whether the specific procedures under the Law on Cultural Heritage have been fulfilled in the case of the monument. Petkov recalled that similar actions, such as dismantling, and in this case, open demolition, according to the aforementioned law, were preceded by coordination with a specialized expert council on fine arts under the Minister of Culture, established in 2011. He is adamant that such preliminary examinations, before the cutting of the monument began, were not done – a gross violation of the Regional Administration in Sofia and a number of other violations in the context, which ABV will refer to the prosecutor’s office. Rumen Petkov emphasized that he was encroaching on a work of one of the greatest Bulgarian, world-renowned artists.
„To cut off the hand that freed Europe from Nazism… These criminals will bring the destruction to an end. Our opposition to these actions is unconditional. We will seek retribution not only for the memory of the victims in the Second World War, not only for the honor and dignity of the First Bulgarian Army, which participated on the side of the anti-Hitler coalition, we must realize that this is the Bulgarian honor and dignity. We have to understand that the speculation with the story is over.”
Rumen Petkov noted that similar vandalism to our cultural and historical heritage and military monuments is not carried out in any other country.
The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine was also a topic for the media, where Prof. Georgi Kyuchukov – a member of the ABV Executive Bureau, noted the weakening of public opinion for categorical aid to Ukraine and growing skepticism in this direction, giving an example of Israel’s attitude and the refusal of another dose of funding from the American side. He emphasized that the analyzes at this stage are in the direction of the economy and not so much – of military actions and strategies.
Rumen Petkov commented on the defeats on Bulgaria, as a result of the conflict, from the point of view of unmeasured actions on our part and commitments to Ukraine for the admission of agricultural products, uncontrolled, refused by a number of other countries. The result for our agriculture is catastrophic, he stressed. Ukrainian cars and trucks are also driving uncontrollably on Bulgarian roads – no tolls, no tolls. This is heavy dumping, putting our carriers in an extremely disadvantageous position, Petkov said. The damage from the financing of Zelensky’s regime and the damage to us, as an economy, as revenues in the republican budget, are immeasurable, the leader of the ABV is categorical.
