The appellate specialized criminal court found Rumen Ovcharov guilty of intentional homelessness and sentenced him to two years in prison, the court said.
The second-instance court overturned the verdict of the Specialized Criminal Court and instead ruled a new one, finding Ovcharov guilty of intentional homelessness, which caused significant damage to “Mini Bobov Dol” in the amount of BGN 2,659,040.60. , justifying it, however, for the difference up to BGN 24,455,474.80.
The specialized court had sentenced Ovcharov to two years probation in August 2020, but the former economy minister in the three-party coalition also had to pay BGN 16.5 million, as calculated for the state’s damage from his actions.
Plamen Evtimov, executive director and member of the Board of Directors of Mini Bobov Dol, was also found guilty of homelessness. His sentence is again two years probation.
Ovcharov was sentenced not to hold a state position for three years, and Evtimov not to hold a managerial position in a state-owned enterprise.
With the same verdict the defendant Ana Yaneva was found not guilty by the court and acquitted on the charge of intentional homelessness, which caused damages in the amount of BGN 28,174,082.08.
