Due to a call to the prosecutors and their withdrawal from the courtroom, the First Sentencing Court of San Salvador suspended the ruling against the former first lady, Vanda Pignato and nine people allegedly accused of diverting $351 million from the Presidential House , in the administration of former president Mauricio Funes.

The prosecutors of the Public Ministry left the room without informing the court of their actions. The Secretary of the Court said that the prosecutors received a call, presumably from his leadership summoning them to an “urgent procedure,” for which they had to leave the courtroom.

The court suspended the ruling after arguing that it was necessary for both parties to be present at the time of resolution; However, he gave “an ultimatum” so that the prosecutors and the defense party would be present the next time the ruling was handed down.

The First Sentencing Judge of San Salvador said that “the date on which it will be rescheduled for the last time will be notified, with the warning that on the next date the ruling will be issued with the parties who are, “Whatever time is appointed, that will be the prevention that will be established at the next appointment.”

The judicial official assured that the ruling “is ready and will not change.” This is not the first time that the ruling has been suspended, it has been suspended on at least 6 occasions.

The FGR accuses Pignato and nine other people of allegedly committing the crimes of embezzlement and money laundering for the diversion of $351 million from the Presidential House, during the administration of former president Mauricio Funes. For Pignato, the FGR has requested a prison sentence of 19 years.
