Representatives of both the ruling and opposition parties visited Honam and Yeongnam, respectively, yesterday to campaign for support.

People Power Party Emergency Response Committee Chairman Han Dong-hoon visited Gwangju and appealed for support, saying that he clearly showed respect for the May 18th Movement, while Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myeong visited Ulsan and Busan and repeatedly emphasized the need to ‘judge the regime.’

A day after canceling the nomination of candidate Do Tae-woo, who was criticized for his ‘5.18 disparaging’ remarks, Emergency Response Committee Chairman Han Dong-hoon visited Gwangju.

“I think I have clearly shown how the People Power Party and I accept the May 18th Democratization Movement and the extent to which we respect it.”

However, in response to the Democratic Party’s proposal to promote the inclusion of the full text of the Constitution in the spirit of May 18 as a common pledge, they declined to comment, saying, “It is clear that this is the People Power Party’s position.”

Chairman Han visited Chungjang-ro, the historical symbol of May 18, as well as Suncheon, Jeollanam-do and Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, repeatedly emphasizing his sincerity toward the Honam region.

Representative Lee Jae-myung, who visited the weak regions of Ulsan and Busan one after another, repeatedly emphasized the government’s responsibility for the collapse of megacities in the southeastern region and the failure to host the Expo.

“The citizens of Busan must lift the cane against the irresponsible, incompetent, and indifferent government.”

He further raised the level of criticism by saying, “We must hold the President and the People Power Party responsible for what has happened, and if they can no longer be used, they must be fired.”

The Democratic Party, which set the slogan for this general election as “I can’t survive, let’s judge,” defined it as the ‘five major judgments of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration’ by tying in the Itaewon disaster, the Corporal Chae incident, and the suspicions of First Lady Kim Kun-hee’s luxury bag and stock price manipulation on the Yangpyeong Expressway.
